summers almost over

The tours keep ticking over and Hop On Beer Tours keeps introducing clients to Queenstown's growing Craft Beer scene. The summer months bring us a mix of Kiwis, Brits, Americans with some European beer lovers mixed in, before the winter starts and the Australian beer drinking invasion arrives.

As well as different nationalities we have different types of beer drinkers join on the tour. Recently after finishing their tasting at the third brewery, an Australian couple showed me photos of a beautiful kitchen with a beer tap installed, wow. A couple from Wanganui in New Zealand's north island hadn't tried many craft beers before and thought they'd try it out and see what all of the fuss was about. Turn's out their favourite beers were simply the lagers. They informed me that they still enjoyed their day out and now can tell people that they know what a sour beer or an IPA is and taste like, even though it wasn't for them. Another lady from Nebraska knew one of the brewers when he was a child and wanted a private tour to go and Visit Jay from Lake and Wood to check out what was brewing in Arrowtown. This proving no two days are the same with Hop On Beer Tours.

The reason we're on this blog, the Breweries.

Congratulations to Cargo Brewery on opening their second location. A very cool historic building located at the bottom of Coronet peak has now been invaded with Craft Beer which sounds cool to me. Not a part of the scheduled tour however you can enjoy this in your allotted spare time or with a private tour we could visit this local hot spot.

Cool things happening at Canyon Brewing who recently changed their name from Canyon Food and Brew. They are working with Queenstown's first canning line so clients "CAN" now take home 330ml of goodness.

Altitude has been busy sponsoring many local sporting events and keeping Queenstown happy. They grown their team to 5 crew now. Elliot, the founder, is now in his 6th year brewing Altitude Beers and now has to babysit 4 other "beer enthusiasts" on their waterfront location.

Searchlight is still Searchlight. An extremely popular hidden Gem. Although for me, their new Mix Master Mike 'Sour' is too 'Sour'. I'll stick to the 'Roxanne' Red Ale thanks.

So feel free to send us an email if you have any questions, otherwise hit the book now button and we'll see you soon.

Year Two, let it begin

Year two for Hop On Beer Tours and the four Queenstown Breweries is underway.

Year one has brought some great people, great surprises and of course great beer.

The customers have been a little bit of everything. Honeymooners (many), groups from Auckland and the rest of New Zealand escaping for a long weekend, groups of guys from the states who chatted more about sports than beer, groups of ladies out craft beer tasting for the day and a daughter and fathers day out.  This proves that apart from being 18 years of age, beer has no boundaries.

The best part has been seeing peoples reactions when they find out how sour a sour beer can actually be or that pairing with the right food, a dark beer can be quite delicious or wow, that 8% beer doesn't taste that strong.

Year one has been super enjoyable. Special thanks to all the customers who have given great advise or left great reviews. And a special thanks to Queenstown's four great breweries that have put on nothing but great Queenstown Craft Beers.

Cheers to year 2
